This is one of my favorite poses - but it's a complicated one. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Ardha Matsyandrasana 2 is one of 2 neutral twists that can be placed anywhere in a sequence. Which one do you think the other one is? ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ There's so much going on and so much to release and open. Half lotus - working the release of the hips - The bind - working the release of the shoulders in an internal rotation and broadness of the collarbones, the twist with a back bend. And then, to top it off, the head moves in the opposite direction of the chest! ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Ardha Matsyendrasana II⁠⠀ Some of the key alignment points are as follows: ⁠⠀ - When you slide the foot onto the thigh, press down on the thigh⁠⠀ - the palm that is holding the straight leg foot is facing up toward the ceiling ⁠⠀ - Once in the shape draw the knees together, draw the sit bones closer together ⁠⠀ - & then the chin and chest move in unison into a backbend ⁠⠀ - the arm that is crossing the back doesn't grab the lotus foot, but grabs the opposite thigh and the chest is moving to the left, the head rolls to the right.
